Civil Rights at Work: Defending Your Fundamental Dignity
Your civil rights are the very foundation of your freedom and dignity as an individual. They are protected by the highest laws of our country—including the U.S. and California Constitutions. No employer, corporate entity, or business establishment is allowed to violate your rights because of who you are, what you believe, or where you come from.
But here is what you need to know: No one has the right to treat you like a second-class citizen.
At Rastegar Law Group, we believe that defending civil rights is the most important work a law firm can do. We are here to serve as your voice and your advocate, helping you stand up to discrimination, abuse, and unlawful treatment.

Civil Rights
Have Your Rights Been Violated?
Check the signs of Civil Rights Violations
Civil rights violations can happen in the workplace or in any business open to the general public. Use this checklist to identify if your basic rights have been infringed:
Denied Public Accommodations
You are refused service, treated unfairly, or denied entry by a hotel, restaurant, store, or theater because of your race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation.
Identity-Based Violence or Threats
You are subjected to acts of physical violence, verbal abuse, or intimidation motivated by hate or prejudice against your identity.
Refusal to Accommodate Disabilities
A business or workplace refuses to provide reasonable accommodations for your physical or mental disability.
Unlawful Search and Seizure
Your private property, vehicle, or person is searched without probable cause or in violation of your constitutional rights.
Systemic Workplace Bias
You are systematically denied hiring, promotions, or equal opportunities due to protected characteristics.
Important Realization: Under California law, civil rights laws apply to all business establishments. No business can claim a “private policy” to justify discrimination against its customers or workers.
Taking Back Control: How We Help You
Confronting a powerful institution, business, or employer that has violated your civil rights takes tremendous courage. We stand with you to ensure you do not have to fight this battle alone.
Here is how we stand by you, step-by-step:
1
We Listen to Your Story
During your free, confidential consultation, we listen and evaluate your legal options.
2
We Evaluate Your Claims
Federal and California civil rights laws are carefully applied to evaluate your claims.
3
We Navigate the Process
Administrative filings and legal procedures are managed on your behalf.
4
We Demand Full Accountability
Compensation may include lost income, emotional distress, and available damages.
Best of all, we work on a contingency fee basis. This means we charge no fee unless and until we successfully recover compensation for you.
The Legal Foundation: What Protects You?
California has some of the most progressive and powerful civil rights legislation in the nation:
The Unruh Civil Rights Act
Outlaws any form of arbitrary discrimination by California businesses against customers based on sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, primary language, or citizenship.
The Ralph Civil Rights Act
Forbids any acts of violence or threats of violence committed against an individual based on their identity or political affiliations.
The Bane Civil Rights Act
Prohibits anyone from using force, or threats of violence, to interfere with your constitutional rights.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Federal)
The historic nationwide legislation prohibiting discrimination in public facilities, voting, and employment.
If a business or employer violates these civil rights acts, they can be held liable for actual damages, emotional distress, punitive damages, and significant civil penalties. In many cases, California law also requires the offending party to cover your attorney’s fees.
